Join us in Hong Kong on May 13-15, 2026 for 2nd HKU Next-Gen Finance PhD Workshop and 4th HKU Summer Finance Conference – a unique opportunity to discuss your research with leading scholars and peers!
The PhD Workshop will be held in person on May 13, 2026, followed by the Finance Conference on May 14-15, 2026. All admitted students are required to attend all three days.
The May 13 workshop will be dedicated to PhD presentations, with two parallel tracks:
• Governance & Corporate Finance led by: Prof. Jarrad Harford (University of Washington), Prof. Song Ma (Yale University), Prof. Roni Michaely (HKU)
• Investment & Sustainability led by: Prof. Richard Evans (University of Virginia), Prof. T.C. Lin (HKU) and Prof. Yang Song (University of Washington).
We invite PhD students from around the world to apply or be nominated to participate. Selected students will have the opportunity to engage with senior faculty and the chance to present their research in the PhD Workshop.
We welcome submissions of both theoretical and empirical research related to either of the two tracks. Please prepare (1) your CV, (2) your research paper, and (3) recommendation from your PhD supervisor, and apply via 2nd HKU Next-Gen Finance PhD Workshop – Fill out form by January 21, 2026. Applications will only be considered upon completion of the online form and submission of all required inputs (including the supervisor’s recommendation, details in the application link).
Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD program at the time of the workshop. Decisions by the program committee will be announced in early February 2026.
Support for Admitted Students:
• Meals: Lunches (May 13-15) and dinners (May 13-14) will be provided.
• For students not currently residing or studying in Hong Kong,
• Three nights of accommodation (May 12-14, double occupancy) near the HKU campus will be arranged.
• Up to HK$5,000 of travel allowance will be reimbursed for the most economical direct air or rail fare between the participants hometown and Hong Kong. (Selected students who fail to participate fully during May 13-15 could face penalty)
